Audiobook and Book Percentage: Tracking Reading Progress
Progress percentage is what you have completed divided by the total length, times 100 — pages, minutes, words or locations all work, as long as both figures use the same unit. Playback speed changes only how long the remainder takes in real time.
Working in minutes
- Convert hours and minutes to total minutes first: 4h 05m is 245 minutes.
- Progress = minutes listened ÷ total minutes × 100.
- Real time remaining = minutes remaining ÷ playback speed.
- At 1.5×, a remaining 375 minutes takes about 4 hours 10 minutes of your day.
Why speed does not change the percentage
Progress is measured in book time, not wall-clock time. Listening at 2× halves the hours you spend but the position in the book advances exactly as it would at 1×. Apps show both, which is why the 'time left' figure shrinks when you speed up while the percentage stays put.
Planning a finish date
- Daily listening needed = remaining minutes ÷ speed ÷ days available.
- Estimate print pages from audio: roughly one page per 1.5 minutes at normal narration.
- Ebook locations work identically — divide current by total.
- Track a series by summing the totals and treating it as one long book.
Key takeaways — Audiobook & Book Percentage Calculator
- Progress % = completed ÷ total × 100, in any consistent unit.
- Convert hours and minutes to minutes before dividing.
- Playback speed changes real time remaining, never the percentage.
