How the electricity cost calculator works

Convert watts to kilowatts, multiply by hours of use to get kWh, then multiply by your tariff.

Formula

cost = watts ÷ 1000 × hours × price per kWh

Worked example

A 1,200 W heater for 3 hours a day at $0.28/kWh costs about $30.68 a month.

Frequently asked questions

Does standby power matter?

Yes. A few watts running 24/7 can add up to more than occasional high-power use.
